What is CoinMarketCap?
CoinMarketCap is one of the most popular cryptocurrency tracking sites and regularly trends on Twitter. It pulls information on a wide range of Bitcoin coins and altcoins from many different bitcoin/altcoin exchanges. This allows users to compare and contrast different cryptocurrencies.
The website also lets users sort by coin market cap ranking, name, price or price percentage change over 24 hours. There are further filters to help you find a specific token, such as the top 500, 300, 100 or 30 ranking coins, the biggest/top gainers or the new and most viewed listings. It's even possible to create a custom list of your own favorite coins.
Apart from tracking cryptocurrencies, CoinMarketCap also tracks noteworthy Non-Financial Assets (NFTs). This includes digital art that can be bought or sold on online platforms such as Bitfinex. It is also possible to track collections of or individual pieces of NFT art.
In March 2021, CoinMarketCap introduced a new initiative aimed at improving data transparency and accountability. The site would start imposing stricter requirements on exchanges that wanted to be included in its rankings. Any exchange that failed to meet the requirements would be excluded from its rankings.
Customers can make use of the CoinMarketCap API service to display a number of different data points on their own websites and products. The service's Basic API is free of charge and there are subscription plans for the Professional API that range from $29 per month to $699 per month, with different credit levels available for each.
